1. Open up an image of a person’s face. Any will do, although I recommend one of these sites: http://www.veer.com, http://www.stockvault.net/, or http://www.istockphoto.com/index.php.

2. Now take out the stamp tool (zombie tutorial image). If you don’t know how to use it, I will explain now. Change your brush size to something close to half the height of the person’s eye. Make sure it is circular and I like a fuzzy setting. Now, on the cheek area of the face hold ALT and click once. Now let go of ALT.

3. Take the stamp tool and move it over the person’s eye, either one. Without holding ALT this time, click once on or around the eye area. What this does is take the material from where you selected it by pressing ALT and clicking. Then it copies it and places over where you click.

4. Now take the heal tool (zombie tutorial image). And repeat steps 2-4 only with this tool.

5. If the person you are manipulating is smiling, like mine is, there are two solutions. One, you can just cover up their mouth just as you did with their eye. Or second, you can use the liquify mode. Filters > Liquify. In liquify select the move or push tool (zombie tutorial image). Then change the brush size to about the size of the person’s eye. Click and hold down the mouse button and move the person’s cheek area down on top of their mouth from all sides.

6. Now take the burn tool. Set it to these settings:

brush size: 28px [this may vary]
hardness: 0%
Range: Highlights
Exposure: 20%

7. This takes a long time to get right for most people so practice. Take the burn tool on highlights and make light blotches all over the person’s face. Then change the range to midtones and do the same but make the blotches inside of the other blotches. Last, change the range to shadows and do the same. This adds a bruised or scratched appearance to the zombie. NOTE: Burn the area around their eye and mouth heavier than the other areas to make it look more realistic.

8. Now zoom in on the eye that you did not cover up. Take out the timestamp tool. Set the size to about 1/8th of the width of the eye. Select the white part of the eye and cover up the zombie’s pupil. Then take the blur and smudge tool to make the white area look smoother.

9. The final step. Zombies usually do not have much skin color, right? So take out the sponge tool and set the mode to desaturate. Then lightly move it over the zombies face and you are done.

    WOW NICE

  4. Gabriel

hmm, thats pretty cool wat u did to the mouth but as far as scaryness goes… micheal jackson could get off on that pic if he wanted… honestly. wat i do to make things ril scary is to darken the photo by adjusting the levels and stuff… concealing some details of the photo will let others minds fill it with there own imagination. and try playing with layering affects like soft light or darken. then chage that layer’s color to a kinda squeemish green or a cold dead blue… and for the eyes make them more hallow instead of just grey, and some bloody tears with the burn tool would do just fine. and mabey some junks of her skin missing or a slightly drooping/deformed eye socket would do the trick. just some tips and stuff. but hey, after reading my comment, tyr that stuff and see wta you can come up with… email me the results or make a new and improved tutorials. bunchs of ppl will appriciate it. good job though and keep clickin that mouse!

though it might look more appealing if you added more blood effect…
    gore!
but it’s great one to use as a basic…
    keep on coming!
    ^_^

  8. Mr Fen

Pretty basic.. Kinda boring, didn’t look anything like a zombie.. 7/10 … Good effort.. wait behind at the end of class

  9. Zhein

What Can I Say? You make it good. Great! But I think that would be look great if you put a humanic face and everyone will said it look like a zombie. See? With perfect face, zombie skin, and it’s scary. What about it? a Vampire style.

  10. Greg

Thanks, and if you want the vampire effect. All you have to do is use the smudge and blur tools to make the teeth pointed ;)

theres a nice little app just hit the web I’ve played around with - cool way of creating Zombies without the need for PhotoShop skillz.

    http://www.diaryofthedead.co.uk/zombiefacechanger

It only lets you upload faces - would be cool if it could take photo’s through a web-cam or something but the eyes and scars are sick

  30. shambles
